Vitamin B7 · Vitamin H
Biotin
Evidence: Traditional useSkin & coat
A B vitamin involved in forming keratin. A deficiency is rare on a complete food.
Why this grade: The only study on skin and coat in dogs (Frigg et al. 1989, 119 dogs) had no control group, and the dogs already had skin and coat problems beforehand. There is no controlled study in healthy animals on a complete food, so it is traditional rather than partly supported.
„contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and coat“
Reference amount per kg per day

Why there is no amount here
FEDIAF sets no biotin requirement for dogs: a dog makes enough of its own through its gut flora. So there is no reference amount for dogs here, and a biotin product for dogs addresses a need the guideline does not recognise.
