A glycosaminoglycan from cartilage tissue, nearly always combined with glucosamine. The same 2022 meta-analysis found no benefit for the combination. So we do not rate the amount.

Why this grade: As with glucosamine: the 2022 meta-analysis by Barbeau-Grégoire found no effect in eight of nine trials and advises against its use in dogs and cats.

As with glucosamine: the usual companion amount is a manufacturer habit. The placebo-controlled trial that tested the two together found no difference from placebo.
