Pure psyllium husk. The maker doses in teaspoons and states the density alongside: 30 g is 70 ml. A quarter teaspoon is therefore about 0.5 g, a tenth of the amount in the cat trial.

Basis of the reference: Leib 2000 (JVIM 14:27, PubMed 10668813), rückblickende Auswertung von 37 Hunden. Das Abstract nennt als mittlere Anfangsmenge zwei Esslöffel Metamucil am Tag bei einem mittleren Gewicht von 13,9 kg; umgerechnet wird die Studie mit rund 1,3 g Flohsamenschalen je kg und Tag zitiert, bei einer Spanne von etwa 0,3 bis 4,9 g. Den Volltext mit der Umrechnung konnten wir nicht einsehen. Eine Fallserie ohne Kontrollgruppe, also die Menge, die gegeben wurde, nicht eine geprüfte Wirkschwelle.
Worth knowing: Always give with plenty of water, or the husks swell in the gut instead of the bowl. Feed a little apart from tablets, as the gel can delay their uptake.
