About
One person, one dog, and far too many “top ten” lists
Petlements exists because looking for a supplement for your own dog works surprisingly badly. You find lists of ten products, every list in a different order, and nowhere the figure that actually matters: how much of an ingredient my animal, at its weight, actually gets per day.
That is what this site works out. We take the manufacturer's feeding table, convert it to your pet's weight, and compare the result with reference amounts from the literature. For the first time you can see which products deliver on their promise by quantity, and which merely print an ingredient on the label.
We earn from links to shops. That is exactly why we are strict about it: the part of our software that scores and sorts products never sees the commission at all. An automated test checks that this stays true with every change. How we calculate is set out openly on How we rank.
What we are not
- Not a veterinary practice. With a diagnosis or ongoing medication we deliberately show no product list, only questions to take to the appointment.
- Not a shop. We sell nothing ourselves and hold no stock.
- Not a promise of a cure. Supplements are food, not medicine, and we do not phrase it otherwise anywhere on this site.
What we are still working on
The database grows product by product, each one checked by hand. Every product page shows when we last verified its label figures. And we are looking for a veterinary or nutritional-science review of our ingredient pages. Until that is in place we say so here, rather than claiming a seal.
